Un concierge encadre la visite d’un modeste appartement à une panoplie d’individus, que l’on découvrira tantôt nouvellement divorcés, veufs, immigrés, ou ayant récemment quitté le nid familial. Lors de leurs visites répétées, les locataires potentiels ressentiront un attachement grandissant pour l’appartement. Ils feront appel au concierge, lui demandant de les référer au propriétaire de l’immeuble. Mais le propriétaire ne choisit aucun candidat. Le concierge se voit alors obligé de chercher une explication.

A concierge shows a small apartment to a series of visitors: a woman recently divorced, a widower,  an immigrant artist,  a youth striking out on her own... Each visitor feels an immediate attachment to the place, and appeals to the concierge to grant them the tenancy. He sends off each applicant’s information to the owner of the building but the owner refuses to choose a new tenant. The concierge finally goes to the owner for an explanation.
